Legacy Suggestions?

PostPosted by aliceinchainsrose » Tue Feb 21, 2012 10:17 am

Hi all! I'm new to the whole writing a legacy thing. I've attempted to play through 10 generations before just to entertain myself, although I don't think I have ever made it past gen. 5! But I have never written a story to go with it, so I was just wondering if you guys have some suggestions for me and anyone else who is new to writing legacys!

I'm glad you are thinking of writing a legacy! :clapping:
I had a dream awhile ago and it lead me to have a good legacy idea that (hopefully) I plan to use very soon. :D
It's where there is a mysterious castle on the edge of the world/neighbourhood that is full of treasure and things beyond your sims wildest imagination inside, but you can't enter the castle becuase the door is guarded by a monster who will eat sims who have not fulfilled the 10 requirements. You see there are ten symbols above the gate of the castle that represent each qualification for each generation. So by the end of the 10 generations your sim will have the blood of the people who have fulfilled the 9 requirements before them and they will have completed the 10th. So the monster will let them through the gate. I haven't came up with the generation requirements yet but it sounded like a good idea to me! :D

I like that idea! It keeps it fun and interesting! I was considering doing a Jane Austen themed one...I have already created the family and played them a bit, but I don't know if I like the way things are going and might restart. My idea was to name each child after a character in her novels. Other than that I didn't have much of a plan. When I play, I tend to be too controlling and never let my sims do what they want. I want to just let them go, and see what they do. :D

Thank you!
I had a nightmare and came up with a legacy modification. How addicted can I get!? o_o Seriously I dreamt of the gate with the symbols and it had 10 Generations written above it. XD

You could always try an ISBI (I'm surrounded by idiots), that will drive you nuts and let the house do whatever they want.

Wow...that sounds difficult, but fun! Maybe when I get done with the legacy I'm working on now I will give it a try.

I hope it's OK that I'm replying, even though I'm a Sims 2 kinda gal...

I'm guessing you already checked out the Definitive Challenges List?

I personally like to do little challenges (one generation or less) as seem appropriate for the different Sims. You could also have a look at the rules for an Awesomesauce Legacy (different rules, objectives and themes for each generation; if I were to do a legacy, it'd be that one) or you could go for plotiness. I personally find making up plot to be too much work, but I've been having a ball stealing plots wholesale from lovingly adapting the plotlines of Gilbert & Sullivan operettas for my OWBC and making the plots and the Sims work together in such a way that everything makes logical sense and the plots flow into each other naturally. I think the EPIC challenge is the Sims 3 equivalent of the OWBC.

It's ok! I just wanted to get some good ideas started, for me or for anyone else who is new to the legacy writing business. I <3 the Sims 2 also, but since I finally got a good enough computer to run the Sims 3, I been doing catch up work with that. :) I've bought every expansion/stuff pack for the 2 previous games and I see no reason to stop now! lol But thanks for the suggestions, and the links, they help out a lot! The legacy I finally started working on isn't really following any rules, I'm really just seeing if I can play the same family for 10 generations without getting bored. I finally made it far enough to have a teen, which I never have before, so I guess that is a good thing! Then I think I will work my way up to the challenges that have more rules.
