A Victorian Legacy - Chapter 24.3 23rd Oct 2011

For regular legacy stories... a sim, an empty lot and the future ahead of them.

A Victorian Legacy - Chapter 24.3 23rd Oct 2011

PostPosted by Dicreasy » Sat Dec 10, 2011 4:10 pm

New board, same old introductory post to my legacy! :p

This is a Victorian themed legacy with the following handicaps: first born male inherits, behind the times and strict family values. I apologise for the sometimes ropey photos in the first few chapters, but I think that they get better from chapter four onwards.

Also from chapter 8 onwards the amount of modern paraphernalia considerably diminishes.

A quick note on how I'm organising the chapters, I am counting the start of a new generation from the point when the youngest heir becomes an adult, ie when the next generation returns from university.

I've made a spiffy little family tree as well which can be viewed here.

Also why not check out A Very Victorian Bachelor Challenge featuring Theodore Harrison?
Or how about A Very Victorian Asylum Challenge featuring Marielle Hutchins?

The failure of the exchange in May, June and July meant that I had to find an alternative method of hosting my chapters. I like the new format so much, and don't want to trust the exchange any more, so for any chapter or interlude published before May 09, you now have two options for viewing them: the exchange or SlideShare. Anything published after May 09 will be on SlideShare only. Also, given the fact that SlideShare doesn't have the same constraints with regards to content as the exchange, please be aware that I may use stronger language and/or explore more adult themes in the later chapters.

Any comments and constructive criticisms are welcome.

Uploads.

I have a large selection of legacy sims, as well as some CC I've created available for download here at Di's Victorian Emporium. If there is anyone missing from here and you would like them in your game, let me know and I will upload them.

Bibliography.

These are the books I most commonly refer to whilst playing and writing.

Mrs Beeton's Household Book Mrs Issabella Beeton edited by Kay Fairfax. Mrs Beeton, nuff said.
Hints on Household Taste Charles L. Eastlake. One of the most influential writers on interior design from the Victorian period, this book is great for getting the right look to the houses in my game.
The Victorian House Judith Flanders. Simply one of the best social history books I've read. She takes us through everyday life as witnessed by the rooms of a house.
Victorian House Style Linda Osband. Aimed at people who live in period houses who want to restore some of the original ambiance, this is a great source of ideas as to how to decorate my houses.
The Victorians A. N. Wilson. Details the history of the period, including the political scene.

I am here, and I am very late, but I am commenting once again!
Spoiler:
*Headtilts with interest over shirtless footballers* Obviously it could never be as scandalous as even slightly undressed women, but was men being shirtless in public at all scandalous too? I'd imagine it'd at least be frowned upon, especially in their part of the social spectrum. Hee, I think I'd be with Lauren on the not-really-complaining front :P And oh, the Florentines and their totally nudity-justifying art  I guess the chapter kind of answered the scandal question for me, I guess commenting-as-I-go doesn't really work X)

Poor Andrew, Peter and Celly losing their grandmother (and Theo his mother) *pets them*

<3 Lauren, making everything so much simpler :P And also <3 Sophia trying to resist the obvious attraction. It's so entertaining watching characters dancing around each other and their attraction like that when you know that they'll end up together ^.^

*Wistful sigh* You're so good at keeping all the many extended relatives memorable and distinctive. I wish I could do that. I never see anyone and have to think "Uh, remind me who that is again?"

Awwwww, poor Bertie having that fear of being alone *hug*

*\o/* They have a date! And I love how well Bertie and Lauren are getting along, even though there's no interest there. They can stay friends once Sophia and he are married ^_^

Oh Lauren, you are so very crafty and almost kind of cruel, but since it's going to work... X) And Sophia and Bertie are so absolutely adorable with their realisations of love ^____^ And in my experience it must be love to go wandering around by foot in the kind of shoes I'm imagining she's wearing. Although maybe I'm imagining wrong for the era?

*GASP* PASSIONATE KISSING IN PUBLIC IN THE DARK WITHOUT A CHAPERONE! Somebody fetch my smelling salts, it's all too much! :P

His brain was struggling to comprehend the fact that he had gone from thinking he had embarrassed himself completely and lost the woman he was now sure he was in love with, to being kissed passionately by her, to being chastised by her, all within a few minutes.
Welcome to your marriage, Bertie! :D
My word, all this kissing would offend any decent person's sensibilities *gets out popcorn instead*

Hee, Victorian pillow fight ^_^ I love the sisters' relationship too :D

Interesting about Emmi, but like you mentioned before, and it still makes perfect sense from the way you've written her

LOL, oh Zane and your inability to dislike anyone *ruffles his hair* Also *speculates as to whether Sarah Jane may have been an anonymous sim in a drabble of yours or not*

Poor Stuart and Bertie, their situation hasn't been easy *pets them both*

LOL at Doc gleefully reinforcing iminent fatherhood on Andrew X)

Yay engagement and soon marriage! *\o/*

Heeeee, Vicky and Owen and Mari ^.^

Oh dear, poor sweet Derri being in love with such a strong girl with such protective older brothers X)

Oh Ezra and Ezrany in general <3 And poor, but very talented, Christopher *pets*

O HAI JOHN. I know he's a villain and I should not have a soft spot for such people, but once you get somebody in your game, y'know? :P *sits back and waits to be able to dislike him some more*
... He kicked at a dog. Gosh John, tone it down... Okay, and now he wants them dead. I guess that kind of puts kicking at a dog in perspective >.> Somebody needs a serious slap over the head *stern face*
... Okay, and now he's so affected by a letter from his father and everything that I kind of want to hug him and then forcefully pull him back to the side of People who are Sane, Rational and Good. And still slap him over the head for good measure.

*Eyes hiatus sadly* *Sighs and draws up resolve*
I hope the rebuild goes really well and we can look forward to this completely, totally amazing story resuming once you've got everything sorted :)

Hi Dicreasy!

I just started reading this, and I love it. I'm in the middle of the third generation, and I was wondering what order I should read the chapters and accompanying stories, such as the bachelor challenge and the legaversary gifts. Also, UPDATE!!!!

Spoiler:
:shok: I had just finished writing this wonderful long post when google chrome crashed on me. So, if this is awful and unreadable, sorry.
I just finished reading through the whole legacy. It was absolutely wonderful.
A long time ago, I started reading your legacy on the exchange. I loved it, so it was great to come back and see all that's passed since then.
Seeing all the simselves in your legacy makes me really sad, because I feel like we don't have such a community on the new boolprop. I feel like a lot of people haven't come back and haven't been posting as much...
Your legacy has just the right amount of plot and
I loved the punishment of Joe Grundstrom. Serves him right.
I was wondering, in the asylum with Marielle did you purposely make sure no one died? Because in my asylum, about half of the people died... :dunno:
My favorite sims were...Gabe, Allyn, Charlotta, Theodore (nummy), Enid (for making Theo  ) and Marielle (but only for her looks, not her personality!)
By the way, do you know what Marielle's original hair was? The messy braids one? I loved it.
Just saying, Stuart as a teen reminded me of Alvin Futa.
Is there a mod to do the piano duet thing you did with Stuart and Emmi, or was that just poseboxes?
By the way, you should post pictures of "behind the scenes" of building and posing for pictures. That would be really interesting.
Also, how much do you use poseboxes? Is it often, or only occasionally?
And how do you get the pictures in the picture frames (the ones of the family members)? Is it a mod or photoshop?
I do love how you continue the story on with the spares. The legacy simply wouldn't be the same without Theo, Alexandra, Stanley, and everyone else... I've got to say though, having all the victorian names can get kind of confusing, especially when they're similar.
Are Sophia and Lauren originally townies? If not, isn't it against the rules to marry Bertie to Sophia? Will you?
What do you use for the road covering? It looks really cool.
Also, I think you did something with the last chapter in terms of formatting...When I tried to go fullscreen but it only filled up the window, not my entire browser. Also, the font was harder to read than before.
Who was the alien girl who Christopher was painting (and kissing) in the Gen 5 celebration video?
And was it Emina and Zane who were in the one about playing piano? It was kind of confusing who the people were.
Speaking of that, it was wonderful and I thought the music was better than the originals.
I understand this has been a very long and rambling comment, apologies... :pardon:
Anyway, this is great, and you need to update!!! Sometimes the best way to get through writer's block is to go right through it... :clapping:

Late comment is late I had a lot of trouble getting the slideshow to actually not hang on me when viewing it online so had to download the PDF. Then I lost the thing so had to download it again:

Spoiler:
Okay first things first. EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! It's Mari and Greg in the background! So very cute. So very cute. And EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! for Owen too! WEE!!!

Okay squeeing off.

I really do like Lauren. I find her common sense and practicality refreshing along with her appreciation of the male body. I mean who wouldn't appreciate that? It may not be okay for the time period for men to be shirtless, but I certain didn't mind a peek or six. The dinner was nice. I liked how Lauren totally manipulated the two of them She's just awesome!

And it's about time that they both realized their feelings for each other. I'm just saying!

I still love Eddie. He's really one of my favorite sims of yours.

Oh Sarah Jane. I'm not sure how I feel about her. She reminds me a lot of her Aunt Marielle and that isn't a good thing. The whole social climbing bit especially.

I also like Zane. His kindness is really refreshing. It's like no one can really hate him and he doesn't really dislike anyone either. He's just that genuine. And I think Sarah Jane's attitude toward him may be another reason why I am not as fond of her.

Poor Stuart. that's really all I can say. He doesn't have an easy decision and either way someone isn't going to be happy with the choice he's made.

I admit it. I LOLed at Doc's Reaction to Grandbabies. As well as Andrew's reactions to everything from the maid to his brother getting there first. Go them! And redheads are uber super important!

I'm really glad that Vicky is getting a place of her own and that she is happy. Even if Patrick isn't around and things aren't so good with him. That girl deserves some happiness.

Even from the grave Henry still continues to haunt this family doesn't he. John such a bad choice there.

Nice chapter. I hope that rebuild goes smoothly and quickly!

Hugs
